Sunny Side Up Breakfast fete has made the long arduous journey from Trinidad to New York for the first time and the TJJ crew was in the house to meet and greet it! It started at 5am, but we needed a little more time to rest, and made it over to CPAC for 8. The entrance was shielded under a large yellow tent...in fact yellow and black were the theme colors of the day, and those colors of fabric were stretched across the fences and the DJ stage. Yellow black and white flags adorned the fenced as well.
What started out as a fairly chilly morning became warm and then hot as the sun rose in the sky. As the Djs cycled through the rotation: Anonymous, Freaks 4 Soca, Spice and Cin, the party just mellowed out into a cool vibe. Not one person was standing still as the bottles flowed (of course Johnny was in the house, but I did see a Henny and a Goose bottle here and there) and the sun rose high into the sky. If you see people! The yard was soon packed with people everywhere the eyes could see, smiling and happy in the sunshine. Soon the sprinklers and foam were turned on, and everybody had a time running through the sprinklers and jumping in the foam, including yours truly!
One problem: the food. The free food ran out quickly, which I was told included bake & saltfish, among other offerings. There was an omelette station, and it took 45 minutes to get one made- with either cheese, salsa or both. Great idea and it tasted terrific, but more burners were needed to accommodate the size of the crowd. In addition, the bake & shark, which was $7, was slow to prepare. I heard people waited for over an hour to get one. There was a lot of frustration with the food preparation and I heard a number of complaints about it.
Who say Sunny Side Up New York forever? I had a wonderful time and I heard nothing but good reports from party patrons who were well pleased with this early morning party. As it ended close to 2pm, I saw nothing but smiles and happiness, and people who could not wait for next year. TJJ says thanks for the invite and eagerly awaits the next SSU NY!

I enjoyed SSUP Brooklyn. I came to party and that's what I experienced! The food service need some work, hence, the rating. Bar great service-good job ladies at the bar.

the party was great. I enjoyed it just as much as the one in trini. however, next time make it drinks inclusive as well. as Kemba said the bar service was excellent. good job ladies. the bar prices were great taking into account I had to pay TT 6:38 to 1 USD. Keep it up guys and I would certainly be purchasing my trini ticket early as usual along with my 5 other crew members.

So Sunnyside up.......it wasn't quite what I had anticipated but it was the first time it's been held in NYC so there is only room to get better. I arrived around 7 or so to a nice handful of ppl scattered throughout - I know this NY so ppl like to show up fashionably late. Since I had been partying straight through de night I decide to sample de food. So I head to the food area anticipating a nice bake and shark, doubles, roti or something. What do I find? A long line of ppl stand up waiting on omelettes. Omelettes?? I have to question why the promoters decided of all vendors to bring omelette makers who could not keep up with the flow of crowd - after all this is sunnyside up I want my west indian breakfast foods - a little sadha roti and pumpkin. The other option was pelau, bake and saltfish or fish broth - hmmmm. I decided on the bake and saltfish - it was good but the person sharing the food was skimpy on how much she was giving out. So my belly full I ready to drink and catch vibes - one problem: they serving everyone saltfish and no where in de fete can you find any gum. I had to plead with the door staff to run out to the car. K so gum in hand I hit de area near the stage ready to flex out to some tunes - and hear what de dj decide to play. Marvin Gaye.............Was he serious? I start to get vex, my sleepiness hitting me and I still craving that promised nonexistent bake and shark. It's only after ppl complaining that de promoter run up on de stage to tell de man to play some more upbeat music - particularly soca . Once chunes start to spin, the vibe got nice, liquor was flowing, ppl was chippin and the crowd only growing. I was impressed with the turnout and think the promoters were able to see what worked and what didn't work so I'm sure next year will be an even bigger success. Most important thing for the promoters to note is that this is Sunnyside up - a breakfast fete - so if they doh do anything else they need to make sure there is a wide abundance and variety of food - and I wouldn't mind paying a little more at the door so that drinks are included too.
